Overview

The Translation Seminar is a fifth-year elective course of the English major in the undergraduate Education program. In most cases, the choice of electives in the fifth year include a course on Psycholinguistics.

In the Seminar, students translate written texts from English into Spanish. They also read and discuss theory related to Translation Studies. Likewise, students are encouraged to reflect upon their own process of translation of every single text. This reflection intends to draw their attention on the mistakes that they have made and corrected, at the same time they look at their progress as novice translators.

In the Translation Seminar, students are exposed to and supposed to translate texts of different disciplines. Some of the fields to which the texts are related include but are not limited to journalism, chemistry, electronics, physics, medicine, and literature. Likewise, students will bring to the classroom texts and translations on any other topics of their interest.
